I recently tested the 50-Cube Ice Maker to see if its easy-press lid lived up to the convenience it promised. While the idea of cranking out 50 cubes for a gathering sounded perfect, my experience with the actual release mechanism was a bit more involved than expected.
The unit is made from food-grade material which feels safe and durable enough for repeated freezing cycles. However, the plastic components feel somewhat lightweight, and getting the lid to seat perfectly every time requires a bit of patience to ensure the cubes form properly.
Filling the tray is straightforward, but the easy-press lid can be finicky if you overfill the individual compartments. Once frozen, the cubes do release fairly well, though it is not always the "minimal effort" experience advertised.
This is a solid choice for home bartenders or hosts who frequently need large batches of ice for drinks or creative frozen treats.
At a $29.00 price point, the 50-Cube Ice Maker is a functional tool that gets the job done, provided you don't mind a bit of a learning curve. I rated it a 3 out of 5 because while it offers great capacity, the user experience could be more consistent.
